Cairns is a unique city located on the north-east coast of Australia, and is home to the world heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and wet tropics rainforests. Cairns is a tropical paradise where the rainforest meets the reef, and is the only place in the world where two world heritage-listed sites can be found side-by-side.

Cairns is a popular travel destination for both students and tourists as it is surrounded by the many attractions that Far North Queensland has to offer. To the north of Cairns you will find the wet tropics rainforests, to the south are many waterfalls and lakes, the east is where you will find the famous Great Barrier Reef, and the west holds the Australian outback. Cairns is home to the beautiful northern beaches which stretch for 26km, as well as an abundance of swimming holes and waterfalls. The neighbouring towns of Kuranda, Port Douglas, Yungaburra and Atherton also contribute to the diversity of the region.

Cairns is a vibrant port and major business centre for Tropical North Queensland. The balmy climate and location by the sea lend it a languid natural ambience.  With its lively night life, alfresco dining, shopping, cultural events and close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and stunning tropical rainforest, Cairns is a tourist heaven. Safe, easy to explore and populated with friendly, helpful locals, this green city is much loved by its millions of visitors.

The Cairns College of English & Business is situated in the heart of Cairns city on Lake Street. There is a wide range of retail, food, and souvenir shops all within short walking distance of the Cairns College of English & Business. Surrounding the college you will also find many cafes, banks, post offices, supermarkets and many other specialty stores. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday Cairns holds the Rusty’s markets where locals sell fresh produce, fashion, food and flora, this is located in between Grafton and Sheridan streets.

If you venture east of CCEB you will find the main attraction of the city, the Cairns Esplanade. The Esplanade has a tropical relaxed environment and stretches for 2.5km along the Cairns foreshore. You can find The Lagoon, which includes a huge public swimming pool, parklands, playgrounds, recreational and BBQ areas all free for use. There is also a wide variety of restaurants and accommodation along the Esplanade as well as throughout the city, ranging from world class hotels to backpacker hostels. The Esplanade always has a vibrant atmosphere, with free fitness classes held in both The Lagoon area and Fogarty Park, as well as weekend entertainment, markets and festivals throughout the year. Cairns has a tropical climate. Beautiful one day… Perfect the next!

That’s the best way to describe Cairns weather.

Winter is by far the best time of the year to visit or live in Cairns, with blue skies, average temperatures of 26°C, and countless weeks without seeing a cloud in the sky. Sometimes you actually get sick of the beautiful weather, and begin longing for a slight drizzle of rain.

Summer goes from December to February, and has an average temperatures of 23-31°C, Autumn runs from March to May and has average temperatures of 20-30°C. Winter months are from June to August and have temperatures of 18-26°C, usually sunny, dry and windy. Spring is from September to November, with average temperatures of 18-30°C, these months consist of warm sunny days and cooler evenings. Casual clothing is worn by locals throughout the year, because the weather is always mild to warm, but a light jacket is recommended for cooler days.
